The Peel Project Youth Football Academy has won its very first trophy!
What began during the pandemic as a weekend kickabout in a local park – set up by a group of parents and friends with no coaching experience – has grown into something truly special. Created to address the lack of youth activities in the area, especially for underserved and disadvantaged young people, it has since flourished into a vibrant community initiative.
By autumn 2023, those early sessions evolved into fully formed amateur football teams. In the past year alone, over 150 children from ethnic minority and low-income backgrounds have taken part in weekly training sessions and competitive Sunday league matches – a transformative experience for the children, their families, and our community.
Now, in just our second season, the U13s team – Priory Peel Tigers – have made history, becoming Bridge Cup Champions in the Hull & District Youth Football League!
Last season, the team won only one of their 18 league games. This season, they triumphed in six league matches and went on to win every single cup match to lift the trophy. All of this was achieved against the odds – with no background in formal coaching, no legacy of experience, and limited resources.
It was a truly special moment for our young players, many of whom had never even stepped into a changing room before. To experience this level of preparation and pride was unforgettable.
These children come from communities where opportunities are limited, and facilities are often lacking and yet, they’ve shown what is possible with belief, support, and teamwork. We hope this moment of joy inspires them to dream bigger and reach further.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to:
- Active Humber – for funding support for pitch hire
- Islamic Relief UK – for sponsoring our kits and club
- Pav Singh – for invaluable coaching support
- Adam Adam – our dedicated U13s coach
- And to all our volunteers, parents, sponsors, and supporters
