Our History

The Peel Project emerged as a response to tragedy, founded in December 2020 within Hull's Central Ward amidst the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

The Peel Project was founded following the tragic murder of a local teenager, Abdullah Ballouchi.

The death of a popular and aspiring boxer was a first in the area and underlined what problems were now arising in an area suffering deprivation and following cuts in youth and community engagement.

Abdullah’s death compelled us to take action. We knew we had to do something to address the challenges of deprivation and disengagement in our area. Thus, The Peel Project was born.

Together, we’ll peel away the layers of neglect and despair, revealing the strength and resilience that lie within our community.

Following a massive tragedy within our community, we knew that we had to come together to prevent other things like this from happening"
